Ichnographies: Salzburg series, 2026

During Christian Schwarzwald’s course at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg*, I further developed the Ichnographies series through a new body of work on paper.

This series explores the conceptual and material intersections between cartography and architecture through the lens of ichnography—a term derived from the Greek ichnos (trace) and graphē (drawing). Etymologically, ichnography refers not only to a technical plan of space but also to a drawing of a trace—or a trace of a drawing. By overlapping the floor plans of buildings from different historical periods, these ichnographies generate intricate networks that suggest new, fictional topographies. Through the superimposition of technical floor plans and fluid structures, these configurations become a trace: an imprint of something simultaneously preserved and erased, present and absent.
